Post Date:04/25/2017 10:35 AM

The latest phase in the effort to revitalize Riverview Park is nearing completion. Renowned local artist Christopher Maslow, whose murals can be seen on various buildings around the City of Melbourne, is currently working on a mural that will be placed on Riverview Park’s large pavilion that faces the Indian River Lagoon. It will be officially dedicated at the park on April 25 at 5 p.m.

The mural will be the seventh installed as part of Melbourne Main Street’s Melbourne Mural Project, a program that encourages the placement of murals around Historic Downtown Melbourne to help define the region as a destination for arts and culture. “Collaboration is key to developing a vibrant Downtown Melbourne, and this mural is just one more example of the strong partnership between the Downtown community and our City,” said Jarin Eisenberg, Melbourne Main Street Executive Director. “We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the revitalization of Riverview Park and continue to shape this area as a destination for people live, work and play.”

Installation of the mural will enhance ongoing improvements at Riverview Park, which began last fall with the installation of a new state-of-the art playground.

"Future improvements forthcoming include a walking path around the north portion of the park, five 20’x20’ shade canopies, and restrooms near the new playground and pavilion area, which will be funded by a combination of tax revenue, grants, and contributions from generous community members through the city’s Pickets for Parks program," said Kevin Briski, Director of Parks, Recreation & Golf. "Our goal is to transform Riverview Park into a recreational destination and an economic driver for the entire community."
